Whether you prefer diagonal stride or double poling, whatever your level of ability, narrow skis are at their best in the valley of the Matterhorn, thanks to the many scenic trails that cross unspoilt countryside covered in natural snow and dense forests.
In Cervinia (2,050 metres a.s.l.), a three-kilometre-long cross-country circuit in natural snow is open all winter, suitable for both beginners and experts. Located as you drive into town, next to a large car park, it boasts a fabulous view of the Matterhorn as well as of the Grandes Murailles mountain range. Ski equipment can be hired.
There are three cross-country skiing circuits in the Champlève locality of Valtournenche (1,841 metres a.s.l.), surrounded by unspoilt countryside: one beginners’ circuit (c. 1 km long), an intermediate circuit (2.5 km long) and a 3.8-km long circuit with an intermediate-advanced climb.
