Snowshoeing in Breuil-Cervinia and Valtournenche

Walking in the snow without sinking into it, even the softest snow, filling your lungs with fresh air, surrounded by lush vegetation, climbing up schusses: this and lots more is possible thanks to a simple pair of snowshoes.

The Plan Maison area of Cervinia (which can be reached by both ski lift and/or gondola lift from the town) offers two trails for enthusiasts of this winter sport. These are very scenic, compacted, signposted and safe and they all enjoy views of the Matterhorn. The first trail is approximately 4.5 km long and winds along the left-hand side of the Plan Maison chair lift (2,500 metres a.s.l.), ending up at the station above the Fornet chair lift (2,800 metres a.s.l.). The second trail, which is also in Plan Maison, is longer (6 km) and ends up at the Cime Bianche Laghi station (2,812 metres a.s.l.). It can take from two to three hours to complete the trail.

The off-pist route "Tour of Mande" trail in Valtournenche starts from the arrival point of the Valtournenche-Salette gondola lift (2,281 metres a.s.l.) and can be travelled both on foot and with snowshoes, or even with cross-country skis. The long trail is 7 km while the ‘short’ stretch is 4.5 km.  In the hamlet of Maen, only 3 km from Valtournenche, another trail runs alongside the lake of that name (4 km).
